Surgery

Routine surgery such as spay and neuter is available Monday-Friday. In addition to routine surgeries, we are equipped to to perform soft tissue surgeries such as abdominal surgery for foreign bodies, tumor/mass removal and biopsy, and orthopedic procedures. When necessary, a veterinarian who is specialized in orthopedic surgery is available to perform such procedures in house.

Presurgical bloodwork is always recommended for each pet. Presurgical bloodwork is required on all pets 7 yrs of age and older to determine if they are healthy prior to anesthesia.

Each surgical patient has an intravenous catheter placed prior to surgery. IV fluids are administered during and after surgery. Each patient will have an individualized anesthesia proctocol that is based on the patients age, breed, and previous or current health issues. Before surgery, premeds are given to make the patient sleepy and to make induction of anesthesia easier and safer. To increase safety and speed of recovery, injectable anesthetic protocols are never used.  We use safe anesthetics such as propofol and isoflurane/sevoflurane to minimize the risk to the patient.  Every surgery patient will be placed on oxygen and gas anesthesia during the procedure. Vitals such as EKG, pulse oximetry, temperature, and blood pressure are monitored by the surgical technician from the start of surgery until full recovery.  Postoperative pain medications are given with every surgery and oral pain medications are dispensed when the patient goes home.
